Obama speech

As we seem to be doing ‘old news’ this week, you might be interested in this speech:

from Barack Obama well before he became President.

Of course, no prizes for spotting why we here in the Library like it but it’s a pretty good example of speech writing and stirring up an audience.

TOTD finally got to read all of President Obama’s inauguration speech and thinks it much better than the media presented yesterday evening in its soundbites.

We’ve mentioned Wordle before and inevitably the speech was an obvious candidate:

So obvious that the Guardian did the same thing (four Wordle clouds of Obama and previous presidents) in a spread today – but didn’t have the decency to credit Wordle at all.  (The one thing they ask is:  “If you use a screen-capture, PDF, or other image representation of a Wordle, you must attribute the image to http://www.wordle.net/. “)

No wonder it’s an uphill battle getting students to give proper credit.
